Job Search Page

Are you having trouble finding and keeping a job? Here are a few tips that will keep you on the right track.

Talk to people. Talk to employers, friends, relatives, neighbours, teachers, employment counsellors. Tell them what kind of job you are looking for, ask them to tell you if they hear of anything. Be sure to always have your resume or a calling card on hand to give to them. The more your information is out there, the more likely you are to get a job!

Visit our Employment Resource Centre. We can help you with your job search. We know the most efficient and current methods of job searching and can be a great help with your search. Give us a call today!

Try the walk-in method. Even if there’s no job ad in the paper, choose companies you want to work for and visit them. You can also find someone in the occupation you are interested in and have an informational interview with them to determine what the job is about and whether they have any leads for you.

Talk to former employers. If you’ve had jobs before and you liked the job, talk to your former employers. If they don’t have any openings, they might know of someone who does. Former employers may also be able to recommend you for positions because they know your work style.

Read the job ads in newspapers and on the internet. Make sure you check the “Help Wanted” ads in your newspaper every single day. Be sure to check out our Related Links section to find websites that advertise jobs in your area. If you are really serious about job searching it can be a full time job in itself. Ensure that you check online as most websites are updated every day.

Keep notes. Create a table where you list; who you spoke to, phone number, date, whether you submitted a resume, comments – what was discussed and anything else that you feel would be important. It is important to keep this updated on a daily basis to ensure that you aren’t caught off guard when a potential employer calls you.
Always keep in mind your overall goal while job searching and be sure to work steadily toward it.
